LUFT INDEX TOKYO: journey with our team through our latest storytelling format.
Luft Index Tokyo is a permanent record of Luftgekühlt’s first journey into Japan – a 164-page portrait of the cars, people, places and energy that brought air-cooled Porsche culture to the streets of Tokyo.
More than a record of a single event, the book follows the complete journey of Luft Tokyo: from the city and preparations in the days leading up to the event, through the gathering itself, and beyond Tokyo on the road into Chiba.
Across more than 220 photographs by Jonathan Walker and Tyson Thorne, the book documents Tokyo and Luftgekühlt from two distinct perspectives, capturing both the scale of the event and the quieter moments surrounding it.
The photography is joined by 23 featured voices from across the international Luft community – artists, drivers, builders, photographers, collectors and creatives – presented in both English and Japanese. Together, they tell the story not only of the cars that filled Tokyo’s KK Line, but of the community that traveled from around the world to be there.
Featuring a special 32-page insert with photographs by eight-year-old So Jimbo. Given a digital camera by his father just months before Luft Tokyo, So arrived with a simple goal: to take a photograph he could use as the wallpaper on his school-issued iPad. Over the course of the day, he made 89 photographs – an unfiltered and entirely personal record of the cars and moments that caught his eye.
